Granice/Borders – European Festival of Theatre in Prison is a meeting which, through direct educational experience and exchange of knowledge, leads to the strengthening of social awareness and increasing the potential of entities active in the cultural sector, which carry out theatre activities in prisons. The event will be a unique opportunity for an international exchange of practices and theatrical experiences in the penitentiary environment.

The Granice/Borders Festival is one of the first initiatives of its kind in Europe, building a platform for dialogue in the area of prison theatre and promoting this form on a wider scale, both in Poland and abroad.

The festival will include work presentations, performances, workshops, meetings and discussions on different approaches to the subject of theatre in prison and its future.

Within the festival will also be presented the exhibition of photographies “Borders”. Its opening will take place together with the official opening of the festival.
Between 28-31.10.2021, the exhibition will be available free of charge to all who will go to the Henryk Tomaszewski Theatre Museum with a “festival pass” during its opening hours, i.e. between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The exhibition will last until 31.12.2021. Passes will be available to collect directly before the festival events.

Alongside the live festival we will be launching a festival online platform where we will be showing documentaries about theatre work in prisons from our project partners, as well as live streaming the festival discussion panels – more information coming soon!
