“Bez skrzydeł/Wingless” is a new performative project of Jubilo Foundation. As in the group’s recent productions (the triptych “On the Other Side,” “On the Other Side – Passage,” “On the Other Side – Concert for Piano and Silence”), the performance explores the theme of freedom in an individual context, but also in a broader perspective – society, relationships, etc.
The first stage of the work was based on the observation of migratory birds. The attempt is to transfer the behavior of birds to active stage action. Main themes of the exploration are the desire for flight, nostalgia for imaginary ancestral freedom and a possible return to a state of lightness.
The dramaturgy is developed by using Aristophanes’ “Birds,” legends of Sufi traditions, polyphonic songs from Corsica and Armenia, and composed music based on ancient Babylonian inscriptions.
Through movement, speech and song, the four performers embody the arrival on earth of four winged beings, their difficult journey through narrow borders and their attempt to find a new form of freedom.
The performance is co-financed by City of Wrocław
